I don't think anyone understands the frustration you feel when your hair doesn't turn out the way you want it to. No matter how many tutorials I watch, my hair doesn't cooperate 95% of the time. Now I'm not sure if it's just me or what, but I have a temporary solution for this problem.
When in doubt, puff it out. Puffs are my first and favorite go-to when my hair decides to not cooperate, which is, unfortunately, very often. It's a quick, easy, simple, yet cute, hairstyle. If you don't want to "puff it out," then wrapping your hair is another option. There are sooo many YouTubers who have tutorials on how to wrap your hair.
I kind of miss my black hair
The last solution for me would be to put my hair in two braids. This is yet another quick and cute style for when your hair turns out to be a fail. I wish I had a good picture of my hair in two braids, lol.
I know this is easier said than done but try not to stress! The worst feeling is having a picture of what you expect your hair to look like, only for it to not come out that way. In cases like this, YouTube. Is. Your. Best. Friend. At the end of the day, there will always be a solution for your last minute disaster.
My opinion piece:
Speaking of wrapping your hair as a solution had me thinking about the bonnet situation. If you aren't aware, Mo'Nique, (Nikki from the The Parkers), spoke out on Black girls wearing bonnets, scarves, and etc, out in public and received a ton of backlash. For whatever reason, the bonnet is what really stood out to people.
Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal. I don't see the correlation between wearing a bonnet and losing "pride in representing ourselves" or not knowing our "worth." I think it's easy to criticize when you don't know what the other person's intentions are or how they're feeling in that moment. Maybe a girl wearing a bonnet means she's about to get her hair done; maybe it means she didn't have time to do her hair so she just slapped on a bonnet; maybe it means she's too depressed to do anything about her hair; maybe it means she just doesn't want to deal with the stress of doing her hair. You DON'T know.
I've personally never worn a bonnet out in public but I don't see it as such big deal as some people are making it. Now if you see someone with a bonnet on in a formal setting that's different, even though you should still mind your business then, but if she's just running errands, mind the business that pays you.
A Black girl wearing a bonnet isn't the end of the world and it doesn't mean every Black girl does it. Your self-worth isn't determined by a bonnet or by others, it's determine by YOU.
Be blessed, y'all.
