What does “good hair” look like?

Look in the mirror. No matter what your hair type is, whatever you're staring at in the mirror is what good hair looks like.

It's extremely saddening when I see textures with a looser curl pattern getting more love than textures with a tighter curl pattern. This view is very detrimental to a young person's view of their hair.

I remember the first day I decided to go natural, I was hoping and praying that I didn't have type 4 hair, especially 4c. At the time, I, unfortunately, gave in to the notion that type 3 hair was just the epitome of beauty. Hell, I was cool with having 4a or 4b pattern but 4c was like a nightmare for me. It was foolish of me to think this way but women with type 3 were just "praised" so much that I wanted the "beauty standard." After a couple years of being natural, and with more representation available, I truly do believe that type 4 hair is just as beautiful as type 3 hair.

There is no such thing as good hair; everyone's hair is "good." I always try to emphasize this on here. This is why I believe representation is important. Representation = more men and women out there seeing people that look like them and learning to love and embrace themselves despite being the opposite of the typical "beauty standards."

QOTW: Do you have type 4 hair? If so, have you ever felt that your kinky hair wasn't good enough? How did you learn to embrace it?

Until next week, xx
