Whenever washday rolls around, I know I'm in for an arm workout. While tending to my hair is a lot, I actually find it a bit therapeutic. It's also one of the only days that I give my crown some thorough TLC. Want to know my routine? Keep reading...
1. I gather everything I need
I put my brush, scrunchies and spray bottle in a bag. In the past, I used an old t-shirt to dry my hair but I've been using a towel lately. If I'm deep conditioning, I'll also grab a plastic cap. I got them from Amazon!
2. Which products to use?
I go through different products and see which combos work well and won't cause flakes. I then set up my station, lining up my prods and iPad to distract myself while styling my hair, lol. I also wash my comb and brushes during this step.
3. My least favorite part...
My least favorite thing to do is detangle; it's such a tedious task. After detangling, I get my shampoo and conditioner, ready to cleanse my hair.
4. Wash
Before putting in shampoo, I like to rinse my hair to get rid of product buildup; I rinse until the water goes from cloudy, to clear.
I'm not sure if anyone else does this but I also shampoo 2x and condition 2x. The only time I won't condition twice is if I plan to deep condition.
5. Detangling...again
Back to detangling I go! My hair gets a bit tangled up while washing, so I have to repeat that process again.
I then use the LCO (liquid, cream, oil) method after parting my hair into six sections.
6. Styling
Styling is my favorite part because I know that means wash day is almost over, lol. I usually do twists because I suck and can't braid well. I'm also trash at flexi/perm rods so twisting really is my only option. If I'm in the mood - which I never am - I'll do finger coils.
BEWARE: finger coils take forever to do!
7. Finally done!
I wait for my hair to air dry before putting on a headscarf and bonnet.
And that's the end of my wash day! What's your step-by-step routine? Let me know!
Until next week, xx
