Here's part 1: https://bit.ly/3fR2zSM
This Tuesday, I bought some hair in a color I've never worn before. I'm hella excited about it but at the same time, I'm worried. When doing protective styles, I always stick to basic colors - black and brown. But lately, I've been feeling a bit adventurous with hair.
When I got the hair, I was not thinking about work. Now, my immediate thought is what if when I get my hair done, I have a job interview? How will they look at me? What will they think of me? I hate that these thoughts entered my mind after, in the first article, I was so confident in my hair and in myself. Now? Not so much.
It frustrates me that I'm worried about what my future employer might think of my hair...despite the fact that it has nothing to do with my work ethic. This new color has me feeling insecure, even though I haven't even worn it yet lmao, but the thoughts just keep pouring in.
My feelings aside, like I said before, if a job can't let me freely be myself, in the sense that I can appreciate my culture without "going against" the company's policies, I don't want it.
I have a couple questions:
What do y'all think? Do you think certain hair colors shouldn't be allowed in a work environment? If so, why not?
Do you think protective styles are appropriate in a work environment? Why or why not?
Do you think the CROWN Act really has an impact on the way employers view natural hair and protective styles? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Until next week, xx.
