When I first went natural, I just winged it. I did not look up many YouTube videos on how to take care of my hair and I did not do much research. It was dumb on my part but I figured that I could just go with the flow because it's just hair, right? WRONG. Ya girl was out here struggling, damn near ripping her scalp off. Needless to say, I quickly took my ass onto the world wide web and did what I should've done from the beginning, lol.
There are a couple of things that I feel like every natural should always have on hand. Here are the items I've personally found to be crucial:
Hair Ties
I usually buy my hair ties from Dollar Tree because they have a good amount in one pack just for $1; they're not weak or cheap feeling either. Whenever I go, I make sure to buy multiple packs, no matter how many I already have at home.
Not too long ago, I discovered the extra large hair ties, (you can see them above; they're also thicker), for thick hair and they have absolutely been a lifesaver.
2. Wide Tooth Comb
You know those rat tail combs with the fine teeth? Put those away and save it for parting because depending on your hair type, you'll no longer need it, lol. If you have coily, kinky or knotty hair, get rid of that comb, sis! You know why!
3. A Brush
My Denman brush, (on the right), was a huge lifesaver for me when I was in the beginning stages of being natural. While I love my Denman brush, it started to deteriorate so I had to get another one. I planned on just buying the Denman again when I saw a knockoff brush, (on the left), that also came with two edge brushes and a detangling brush. I was like, all this for $12? Sold.
When I tell you that it's better, (to me), than the Denman brush? It's so strong and really detangles the mess out of my kinky hair. I absolutely love it and have been using it since.

4. Spray Bottle
Before I bought a spray bottle, ya girl was struggling. I'd fill a bowl up with water, dip my hand in it, then try to get the water from my hand, onto my hair, without dropping it. Don't make the same mistake I made. Get a good spray bottle ASAP!
5. Hair/afro Pick
A wide tooth comb can do the trick but I find it easier to pick my hair with...well, a pick lol. It really gets into your strands and lets you pick at your roots easily.
6. Hair Bonnet
Even with relaxed hair, I wore a scarf, bonnet and sometimes both, to protect my hair at night - I swear by it! For naturals, silk or satin scarves/bonnets are recommended for our hair to protect it, retain moisture and reduce frizz. If you don't feel comfortable with anything on your head while you sleep or if it keeps slipping off during the night, you can sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase.

What are some things that you think naturals should also have? Share them in the comments and leave the link to the product(s)!
Until the week after next, xo
