How to properly detangle your hair

What's up, y'all?

Detangling is hands down one of my least favorite things to do. I half ass it all the time and then I wonder why I have knots, lol. I know to some detangling is common sense but for newbies who aren't sure what they're doing, here's a step by step process that I hope helps:

1. Get hair ties

This is self-explanatory but definitely use hair ties that you don't mind stretching out. I know personally, mine begin to lose its elasticity after awhile.

2. Section hair

I usually part my hair into six sections because my hurr is pretty thick; but part your hair into as many sections you need.

3. Wet hair

Working on one section at a time, wet your hair. It doesn't have to be wet wet unless you want it to, but dampen your strands, making sure it's well saturated. Detangling on dry hair can cause breakage.

4. Start from the bottom, up

You don't want to start combing or brushing from the top, down. This method will more than likely cause breakage and split ends. Make sure your ends are smooth and detangled before combing/brushing through the length of your hair.

5. Finger comb for reassurance

I wouldn't say this is 100% necessary but it's an extra step I do to make sure I combed or brushed out all of the knots. If my fingers can't run through my hair without any issues, I go back to brushing.

For lazy naturals like myself, I know detangling is probably also your least favorite thing to do; however, it's a needed and essential step! Try to keep yourself occupied by listening to music or watching a show/movie. Time will fly by before you know it!

Until next week, xx

QOTW:

What type of comb and/or brush do you use to detangle?
