Edges: to lay or not to lay?

Some people believe a look isn’t complete until you lay your edges…but does that really matter?

For those who don’t know, edges are the short baby hairs around your hairline.

They’re commonly laid with gel or edge control with the use of a comb, toothbrush or edge brush. There are several ways to style edges but my favorite way is the 3 swoops. Personally, my edges won’t lay for ANYthing and I’ve gotten tired of trying to get them to.

Shaming people for choosing not to style their edges is not the wave. I’ve seen, countless times, where people weren’t the nicest to influencers that posted pictures with their “unruly edges.” Here’s some friendly advice: mind your business! What people do with their hair is no concern of yours. You’re allowed to have fun with your hair and style it as you please. At the end of the day it’s all about what you want and if you choose to let your edges do what they want, so be it.

2022 update

Y’all, not only am I slowly learning how to do my edges, I found a product that lays them! I told a friend of mine how nothing seems to work for me and she suggested I try got2b’s gels, both the yellow and black one. She mixes the two and said my edges should last. After a couple weeks, I finally bought them and tried them for myself.

Baby when I tell you my edges were on stuck?!

In the hot summer heat my edges did NOT budge one bit. I was so very surprised that the answer to my prayers were right there all along. I’m sure you can imagine that since then, those are the only gels I’ve been using.

The invincible styling gel has more of a lighter hold for me but the styling spiking glue will have your edges exactly that - glued. Imagine the both of them together?

QOTW: do you lay your edges?

Until next time, xx
