A protective style summer

I got a taste of not dealing with my hair and ran with it.

When I graduated in 2019, I knew that I wouldn't want to bother doing my natural hair for graduation, so I bought some hair to do braids. At the time, I never experimented with color which made me hesitant to do black and brown braids. I eventually punked out and bought more hair that was all black.

Since 2019, I had the pack of brown and black braids in my closet, never touching it...then the pandemic happened so I was like I'm definitely not putting these in just to stay in the house. It wasn't until a couple months ago, I asked a friend of mine if she could do braids. At that point, I just wanted to use the hair I'd had since 2019, especially since the world had somewhat gone back to normal and I'd be going out.

Anakaren did SUCH a good job and I loved my hurr. I think that was the birth of my #protectivestylesummer.

After that hairstyle, I kept seeing butterfly locs all over Instagram. Day after day, I'd see a ton of beautiful women rockin these bomb butterfly locs and it made me want them. I think the minute I took my braids out, I bought my locs and asked my aunt to install them the next week

Y'all....when I tell you that I was IN LOVE with these locs! I kept them in for a month and some change, washing it often to keep 'em fresh. They went with my face so well and the color I chose just made my skin tone pop. I had so much fun with these and I actually have enough hair leftover to do the style again.

Anywho, after a couple of weeks, like I usually do, I cut my locs shorter. I didn't think it was possible to love my hair even more..but I did.

I'm sure that you can see the joy in my face, lmao. I rocked this short cut for a hot minute before removing it and going on to my next style.

I was so sad to remove my locs but I was excited to try twists because I never got them before! My style back then was mainly braids but now I'm getting out of my "comfort zone" and trying different styles and colors. I think after being on lockdown, your mindset had to change. There's no way you came out of lockdown the same way you went in; but I digress.

These crotchet passion twists are SO cute. They're light and bouncy and have a pop of color at the bottom! I honestly don't know why this is my first time doing twists; I was missing out, y'all.

After a week or so, again, as usual, I cut these babies to shoulder length and added some hair jewelry.

Short hair will forever be me and I truly think short cuts look better on me.

I don't know why now is when I decided to have a #protectivestylesummer; better late than never, right? I went from wearing protective styles one to two times a year, to back to back during the summer.

I'm having so much fun and I don't think I plan to stop anytime soon.

QOTW: What's your favorite protective style to do?

Until next week, xx
